Message of Faith
Ever sit in church during the sermon and suddenly realize you are half way through planning your upcoming week or realize you have your entire nights t.v. schedule planned and you haven't heard a word the pastor has said? Yep, I have been guilty of that, too. Or, more often than not, when the invitation music begins a loud sigh of relief escapes my lips as I give thanks repeatedly that the service is almost finished. Not because I was glad the preacher finally called it quits, but because I'm exhausted from giving the evil eye to one or more of my kids and trying to scream in a whispered voice how much trouble they are in when we get home while still wearing a "I love worshiping with my family" look on my face! Never let anyone tell you a mom isn't talented!!
Well, today was NOT one of those days. Today was one of those Sunday's when the message moved me! It blocked everything else out. Nathan could have been sling shotting his snack of Cheerios across the auditorium at fellow worshipers and my attention would not have wavered from what the pastor was saying. A familiar passage from Matthew 14 recounting the story of Jesus walking on water and calling Peter out onto the water with him. Faith, trust, two simple words that we overuse and don't even realize we are doing it. Peter asked Jesus to call him out on to the water, yet when Jesus did, Peter's faith and trust wavered within only a few steps. As he began to sink he called out to Jesus. Jesus came to him and pulled him up out of the water and reminded him of his need to have faith in Him. So many times, I have said that I was putting my trust in Him, but I realized as I sat there listening to the message today that it was a lie. I was like Peter, sinking in the storms of life and calling out to Jesus for help.
Just wanted to share this with everyone. Sometimes when we need it most God speaks directly to us. I am grateful for the reminder He gave me today. Faith, trust, two words that will be the focus of my prayers in the weeks to come.
Welcome to Mommy dearest! As a mom of three amazing kids, I started this blog so that I could share a peek at what motherhood really looks like. It can be beautiful, but be warned, it can also be quite ugly!! It can make you laugh or make you scream, but no matter what, it will always give you unconditional love!

- I am a stay at home mom to three great kids that keep me parenting outside the box. I take one day at time, lean on my Lord, and relish any and all advice that helps me or my kids, or me, or my family, did I say me? Seven years ago I lost my wonderful mother unexpectedly. There have been so many times I have wanted to pick up the phone to call and tell her something funny about the kids or ask her advice. So,this blog is dedicated to her, the dearest mommy in the world! I love you, mom!
Sounds like our typical Sunday service. I usually sit in the back of the church but was forced to the front because of full pews a few weeks ago. I found myself turning around and apologizing to the family sitting behind me. I think my exact words were, "This is why I sit in the back row! I like to keep this show to myself!"
ReplyDeleteHilarious, Liz!! This is first time I have sat up toward the front, and you're right, it comes with a lot of pressure!!
