decorating desires

So, I have never been very good at decorating our home. Thanks to my raging OCD I am quite good at keeping a clean house, but it's a clean, plain house. I don't really know what it is that intimidates me so much. I guess I have always felt like you have to spend a lot of money to really "decorate" a home.
I want that feeling I get when I walk into someones home and see how amazing it looks. You know, that WOW feeling. Like, how on earth did they figure out to put that here and this there and with those curtains. One of my best friends is one of those people. She lives on a shoestring budget majority of the time and yet her home always looks like an interior designer decorated the place.
Since my move to no mans land, I have just made due. I haven't even put in the miniscule effort that is my norm. So, I was doing some thinking this week as I was OCD cleaning my plain home. My husband has sent me several links to homes that are for sale. Since we are trying really hard to Dave
Ramsey our finances before buying a home, I thought I better do something to put an end to this apparent "house fever" that Robert is battling. I decided it was time to put on my decorating shoes and get down to business. My thinking is that if I give the old rental place a make over then putting up with living here a little longer will not be so painful for any of us here at Bellingrath plain house.
I've decided to tackle one room at a time. Since I can sew I will be able to make a few things for next to nothing as far as cost goes. Mr. Ramsey will be proud! I'm going to start with my kitchen/living room because it is a focal point in our home. I figure some hand made curtains on the windows, a few decorator items here or there, and a good decluttering.  First thing to do...take down the Christmas tree! I know, it's crazy right?!! I'm ashamed! My dad came to visit this past weekend and asked if we were leaving it up all year. Funny thing is, I had forgotten about the thing until he mentioned it. Heard of the saying "Elephant in the room?" we are changing it to Christmas tree in the room!  Maybe I'll just throw some July 4th decorations on it and be done. Okay, okay I'll get it out!
This is exciting! I will post before and after pictures. I plan to redo my daughters room soon after this first project. I want to do a Paris theme with black, white, hot pink, and lime green colors. Any ideas would be appreciated. After all I am out of my comfort zone in all of this. And Bestie, if you are reading this, feel free to put your two cents worth in, too!! I've seen your work and know your capabilities!
To losing the plain and adding the flair!! Off to brainstorm....

About Me

Newton, Alabama, United States
I am a stay at home mom to three great kids that keep me parenting outside the box. I take one day at time, lean on my Lord, and relish any and all advice that helps me or my kids, or me, or my family, did I say me? Seven years ago I lost my wonderful mother unexpectedly. There have been so many times I have wanted to pick up the phone to call and tell her something funny about the kids or ask her advice. So,this blog is dedicated to her, the dearest mommy in the world! I love you, mom!
