The Monday slug

Even in the summer, there is just something about Mondays. It's a hard day for me to get anything done. I always feel so tired and unmotivated. I had big plans for today. After I finished my bible study this morning I even made out a really ambitious "to do" list. I had big plans.
I think it has a lot to do with the weekends that precede these Mondays. We try to do things as a family on most weekends when it is at all possible. The weekdays can be so busy it can leave little time to really just relax as a family. Spending good quality time together is very important to maintain close relationships with your kids.
So, this past weekend we took the kids to the beach. One thing I do love about living here in southern Alabama is the close proximity to the beach. In less than an hour and half we can be stretched out on a beach towel relaxing to the sound of crashing waves against the shore. It was a last minute trip, but it was so much fun. We built sandcastles, played in the waves, threw the football, and hunted down seashells.
As I was standing knee deep in the ocean water looking intently through the water at the sandy bottom, Robert came over to see what I was doing. I told him I was looking for seashells. He began looking around with me. We would show our finds to one another or the kids as we would come across a shell here or there. Our oldest son Zach, said, "Yeah, nice. Those will go great with rest of the shells Nathan dumped on the front porch and crushed."  I looked at Robert and laughed out loud. It was true. We have buckets of seashells at home under counters all over the house that have been collected over the many beach trips we have taken. Later Nathan shows us a shell he had found. We oohhed and awwhhhed over it until he tried to put it in the "keep" bucket. "We don't want to keep that one because it's broken!", my husband tells him. Then he looks at me and laughs for a minute at a thought he has and says "you know, I find myself becoming a real shell snob!" He's right! When we first moved close to the beach we kept everything (hence the buckets of shells under all the cabinets at home!). Now, after close to three years of living here we wont even pick up a shell if isn't in perfect condition or extremely unique. We have shell standards!! lol!!
So, maybe it's because of the relaxing weekend on the beach and the wonderful Sunday we enjoyed at church and ended with more relaxing around the house, but today has been unproductive! I am gonna have to get up and get motivated or this summer is gonna lull me into a hibernation!!

About Me

My photo
Newton, Alabama, United States
I am a stay at home mom to three great kids that keep me parenting outside the box. I take one day at time, lean on my Lord, and relish any and all advice that helps me or my kids, or me, or my family, did I say me? Seven years ago I lost my wonderful mother unexpectedly. There have been so many times I have wanted to pick up the phone to call and tell her something funny about the kids or ask her advice. So,this blog is dedicated to her, the dearest mommy in the world! I love you, mom!
