Seeing both sides

With less than three days to go until my sister and her kids arrive I got a phone call last night that every mom dreads! One of my sisters kids is throwing up! It's not good to be getting sick this close to trip day. I travel a lot. There was a time when I thought it was the law that one of my kids had to be throwing up in order for me to make a trip. With me though my kids would always wait to start throwing up until we had been on the road for hours. There is nothing better than being stuck half way in the middle of your road trip with a child vomiting every five minutes.
So, with this new bug hard at work in little Haley's tummy, we can only pray hard...and of course break out "military mommy"! "Military mom" is the mom with a mission. She can quarantine a child, bleach down an entire house, Lysol the rest of the kids, get supper fixed, finish the laundry, stay up all night with said sick child, and never get sick herself!
See, I have this theory that all moms have split personalities. I know you know what I'm talking about, but some of us choose to pretend they don't exist. I on the other hand embrace my craziness! I have named a few of my alter egos as you can see with "military mom". It just helps to keep things organized. You know how much I like to OCD things up!
Some of the other sides of myself would include "public mommy". "Public mommy" is the mommy that gets it right all the time. She's the one you are forced to use when you are out in public places. You know when you are sitting in the dentist office and your son spits on his sister and normally you would respond with something like " what in the world are you doing?  Have you lost your mind?!! We do not spit on our sisters! Do you want me to spit on you? Would you like that?" Instead the response is more like this " Oh, honey we don't do that. That wasn't very nice. You need tell her you are sorry for doing that. You made her very sad. Spit has germs in it. That is very unsanitary, sweetie. Try to remember how you would want to be treated. Now sit down and behave, okay?" All said in a syrupy sweet voice. Also, public mommy would NEVER raise her voice! In reality, I've actually had my voice break before while trying to yell at the kids! lol! Which, got a big laugh and frustrated me even further! lol!
There is also "phone mommy". Apparently I have a much softer candy like voice when I'm on the phone. The family likes to joke with me about this. I am much more likely to handle something they are not doing right, when I am on the phone, with much more leniency than if I were just in the kitchen cooking. Phone mommy says "I'm sorry can you hold on just second? Guys could you quiet down please? Emily could you go put a movie on for your brother?" That's code for if you guys don't get out of the living room while I'm on the phone with this person you are all gonna get it when I get off of here!
So, as you can see there are many sides to a mom. I have given you a glimpse of just a few. I know in my house these are just the tip of the ice berg! Honestly though, it takes a little crazy to make motherhood great. It's too tough of a job for the sane!

About Me

I am a stay at home mom to three great kids that keep me parenting outside the box. I take one day at time, lean on my Lord, and relish any and all advice that helps me or my kids, or me, or my family, did I say me? Seven years ago I lost my wonderful mother unexpectedly. There have been so many times I have wanted to pick up the phone to call and tell her something funny about the kids or ask her advice. So,this blog is dedicated to her, the dearest mommy in the world! I love you, mom!
